Skyworks Global and FedTech Announce Partnership to Commercialize Precision Airdrop System

The industry leader in gyronautics is partnering with FedTech to revolutionize the autonomous rapid delivery industry.

SALT LAKE CITY AND WASHINGTON, SEPT. 10, 2018

Today, Skyworks Global and FedTech announced a strategic partnership to explore the opportunity to commercialize and form a new startup company around a long-range, extremely precise (within 1 meter), autonomous airdrop and delivery technology. This platform could enable the safe and efficient delivery of packages ranging from small-parcels to cargo in excess of two tons. As well, the system enables a broad range of mission sets to include the delivery of humanitarian aid to areas with limited infrastructure, or the delivery of materiel to forward deployed military personnel. Skyworks will enter its patented precision airdrop system technology into FedTech’s Fall 2018 Startup Studio, where FedTech has recruited an industry-leading team of proven entrepreneurs and scientists who will spend eight weeks validating markets and testing hypotheses.

Skyworks is the world leader in the science and technology of gyronautics, striving to make air travel, transportation and logistics safer, more cost-efficient and effective. It has partnered with FedTech, a unique startup platform that builds teams of entrepreneurs around deep tech (i.e. disruptive technology based on scientific discoveries, engineering, physics, mathematics, etc.) sourced from federal labs, universities and corporations for the purpose of commercialization.

With Skyworks’ extensive technical expertise and FedTech’s ability to launch successful startups, the two partners are aiming to bring to market an innovative solution to the complex problems of autonomous domestic package delivery: The Precision Airdrop System. The drone logistics and transportation market is estimated to be $11.20 billion in 2022 and is projected to reach $29.06 billion by 2027, at a CAGR of 21.01% from 2022 to 2027 (MarketsAndMarkets).

“Skyworks is seeking to revolutionize point-to-point air travel through the science of gyronautics. With a strong leadership and technical team and a deep bench of intellectual property, Skyworks is an ideal partner for FedTech. By partnering with FedTech, we can leverage the potential of the program’s top-tier entrepreneur talent to accelerate market adoption,” says General John E. Michel, Executive Director of Skyworks.

The Precision Airdrop System will join 19 other technologies from top labs and universities including NASA, Lawrence Livermore National Lab, Army Research Lab, University of Pennsylvania, and Princeton University among others, in the Fall 2018 Startup Studio.

“We’re excited to be partnering with our first corporate sponsor in Skyworks and looking forward to working closer with their incredible leadership team,” said Ben Solomon, Founder and Managing Partner of FedTech.

The three entrepreneurs who have been recruited to join the Skyworks team are: Eugene Major, Co-Founder, Managing Partner, and Chief Investment Officer of Dunbar Capital; Sarvesh Bhardwaj, Ph.D., Product Line Director at Mentor, a Siemens Business; and Kavinayan Sivakumar, a Ph.D. Candidate in Electrical and Computer Engineering at Duke University.

About FedTech

Hyperion Technologies, LLC (“FedTech”), administers a unique private venture program, funded by federal agencies and corporations, that connects entrepreneurs to technologies developed across DoD, NASA, DOE, companies, universities, and other laboratories. We run multiple cohorts per year where successful applicants are paired with lab partners/inventors to serve as founders. We help companies and labs, that have a portfolio of intellectual property, capture opportunities to extract value from their IP. Organizations often cannot explore these opportunities due to a finite amount of time, resources and alignment of strategic priorities within their organization.
